To be successful in making gallery art sales, an associate must possess two fundamental skill sets: hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills are being able to find new collectors, suggesting a particular artists’ work and helping them to see the value of owning a piece. Soft skills are being able to adjust communication effectively in dealing with different clients, having empathy, being able to tap into emotions and building strong relationships. Though much harder to train, soft skills can be developed with practice and are a huge asset to selling fine art.
